Aces acquire forward from Wildcats

The St. Stephen Aces have acquired forward Johnny Foley, who played half of last season with the Charlottetown Islanders in the QMJHL, in a trade with the Valley Wildcats.

St. Stephen gave up a second round draft pick (acquired from Truro) and future considerations.

“Johnny has a great pedigree behind him and if he is in our lineup next season he will be an impact player,” said Head Coach and General Manager Josh Hepditch.

“Johnny has experience in our league and experience at the major junior level.”

Foley’s goal is to play with the Islanders next year.

“We support that 100 per cent,” said Hepditch. “We hope to be the best option B for him if Charlottetown does not pan out.”

Foley was with Charlottetown for the first half of last season and finished with the Valley Wildcats in the second half. He was also part of the Newbridge Gladiators, who were Atlantic Champions and competed for the Telus Cup in 2015.

“Players with championship backgrounds are hard to come by and when you have the opportunity to add them to your team you cannot pass them up,” Hepditch said.

“Johnny is a two-way player and a hard worker. He plays with 100 per cent compete level and has proven he can score at every level. He is one of those players that is tough to play against and that’s what we need in order to get to the next level.”
