Aces finalize trade, send O’Leary to Summerside

The St. Stephen Aces have traded defencmen Matt O’Leary to the Summerside Western Capitals to complete a previous trade.

“We want to wish Matt the best of luck with Summerside. Matt is an excellent defencmen and even better kid,” said Head Coach and General Manager Josh Hepditch.

“Matt showed last year that he has a promising future in this game and I will continue to watch Matt progress as he moves on.”

The trade comes at the opening of the MHL trading period and completes the deal that saw the Aces acquire Casey Fox from Summerside.

“Losing Matt is not easy for us but it’s unfortunately part of hockey. We had to make some trades last year to help us make a push for the playoffs and there’s a price to pay for doing trades,” Hepditch said.

The trading period opened Friday and will remain open until May 31 when it will close again until the 2017 MHL Draft.

“We are looking to build on what we did last year. We really like the core we have returning and we hope to add a few key pieces over the next three weeks that will help push our team to new levels,” Hepditch said.

The St Stephen Aces have also traded Walker Campbell and a 2017-7th round pick to the Miramichi Timberwolves for there 2017 4th and 5th round picks.

“Walker got accepted to NBCC in Miramichi in a program that we cannot offer around here. It was his wish to play in Miramichi if he could so he could start his program and continue to play hockey,” Hepditch said.
