St. Stephen Aces Jr. A Hockey Club

Aces roster set for MHL opening weekend

The St. Stephen Aces open their fourth season in the Maritime Hockey League with a busy weekend with three road games in three nights.

The Aces season starts on Thursday, Sept. 14 in Pictou County to face the Weeks Crushers. St. Stephen travels to Berwick, NS, on Friday to face the Valley Wildcats before ending their Nova Scotia swing on Saturday in Truro to face the Bearcats.

“We’re starting the season with a challenging three games in three nights stretch but we’re ready,” said Head Coach and General Manager Phil Richer. “We had a good camp, the guys did their work in the summer and this is why. It’s going to be a tough test but we’re ready.”

Richer takes over an Aces team that made strides last season when the team made the MHL playoffs for the first time. The new coach and GM is looking to build on that success.

“Last season gave our players and fans a taste of playoff hockey and now we want more. This is a tough league and there are no easy games but we feel good about our group and we’re going to work hard to improve game after game,” Richer said.

Richer is joined behind the bench by other new additions to the staff – Assistant Coach and Assistant GM Justin Bowers and Assistant Coach Eric Neilson.

St. Stephen fans will get their first look at the 2017-2018 Aces on Friday, Sept. 22 when the Woodstock Slammers visit the Garcelon Civic Center. The Aces host the MHL’s newest team, the Edmundston Blizzard, on Saturday, Sept. 24. Both games start at 7pm and tickets are available online now at
