ACES stockpile for future with trade deadline deals

ST. STEPHEN – The Maritime Hockey League trade deadline hit at 10pm Sunday and the County Aces made several moves as the expansion team continues to build a foundation for the future.

The ACES traded an offensive leader, dealing Eli Jarvis to the Truro Bearcats in exchange for 1998-born Scottie Greene, a 2017 second-round draft pick and future considerations. The Aces also gave up a 2016 fourth-round draft pick in the deal.

Jarvis has 35 points for the Aces this season, second to Curtis Hastings. He has been with the club since early in the 2014-2015 season.

“Eli has been a big part of our team and a big offensive contributor,” said General Manager Eric Bissonnette. “This deal is about giving him a chance to compete in the playoffs in his last season of junior while strengthening our roster for next season and beyond.”

The Aces weren’t done as they dealt Chris Chaddock, who has been playing with the QMJHL Charlottetown Islanders this season, to Brockville for Kyle Orgel and future considerations. The Aces flipped Orgel to the Campbellton Tigers for a 2017 sixth-round pick.

The Aces also traded the rights of Matthew Thorpe to the Amherst Ramblers for a second-round pick in 2017.

Aces Head Coach Josh Hepditch said the team has put itself in a good position as it continues to build a competitive MHL franchise.

“It takes time for an expansion team to develop but we’ve been carefully putting pieces in place,” Hepditch said. “We have a good foundation to follow through on our plan to be competitive year after year.”
